Japanese Papercraft Artist Expertly Turns Empty Pringles Cans Into Dashing Potato Chip Boyband
We're back for the third round of our Japanese convenience store roundup, where we find bizarre and unusual snacks, candy and drinks in the aisles of our local convenience store. (You can review our first and second reports here).
This week, we have 1. A potato chip which thinks it's a soda. 2. A chocolate snack which thinks it's a potato chip and 3. An energy drink which thinks it's a cocktail.
Let's get started!
Cream Soda Potato Chips
You read that right. If you're really into bizarre Japanese snacks, you may be aware that Frito Lay once went out on a limb to offer Mountain Dew and Pepsi corn snacks. Well, Japanese company Yamayoshi decided to make a potato chip flavored with cream soda. In Japan, "cream soda" is an ice cream float made with melon-flavored soda topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Chip Star Chocolates
You may have seen chocolate coated potato chips before, but you probably haven't seen this.
Chip Star is a very popular brand of potato chips in Japan which you can find in any convenience store and supermarket. It's like the Japanese Pringles. This is a chocolate snack coated with crumbled Chip Star potato chips.

Those chip bits! We liked this one. Not too sweet, crunchy, with a hint of salt.

Cuba-Libre flavor Monster Energy Drink
If you're in Japan now or planning on visiting any time soon, make a beeline for the nearest convenience store and grab yourself one of these Cuba Libre Monster energy drinks while they last. It really tastes like the cocktail, minus the alcohol. It would have been perfect with just a bit stronger lime taste, but that's only a minor complaint. It may be similar to the Cuba-Lima version found in the United States, but Monster is advertising this as a Japan-exclusive formula.
