If you love long, windy roads that stretch out to great altitudes, you’ll be a huge fan the Tsugaru Iwaki Skyline in Aomori Prefecture. If you don’t, you’ll want to grab a barf bag before you read on.

This toll road run by Iwaki Skyline Co., Ltd is a 10-kilometer-long (6-mile) road with 69 hairpin turns that passes through Mount Iwaki, the tallest mountain in the Tsugaru region. The road starts from the base of the mountain up to the 8th station of the mountain, which is at an altitude of 1,247 meters (4,091 feet).

The summit is 1,625 meters (5,331 feet) high, though you’ll only be able to go up to the 9th station. If you’re so keen to go that high (and if you’re not sick already), you’ll need to ditch your car and get onto a lift that will take you up.

Because snowfall gets heavy up in Aomori Prefecture, the Tsugaru Iwaki Skyline is closed from early November to early April. Bicycles aren’t allowed access even when the road is open, and for good reason.
