When autumn approaches in Japan, so does the Tsukimi festival. Tsukimi, which means "moon-viewing", is often celebrated by gatherings where people gaze at the fall moon.

One other way to celebrate is to eat foods that resembles the moon by being round and white, such as mochi cakes and eggs. For fast food chains, that tradition has been embraced by releasing popular egg-topped items. The front-runner in this is definitely McDonald's yearly Tsukimi Burger, although KFC has offered Tsukimi Chicken Sandwiches and Domino's even dropped a Tsukimi Pizza recently.

Not to be outdone in the great tsukimi race, burger chain Mos Burger is upgrading their popular Focaccia Sandwich in a collaboration with an anime that has a perfect tie-in to moon-viewing parties--Sailor Moon!

The new Tsukimi Focaccia Sandwich is an egg-topped version of the chain's popular Focaccia Sandwich. In addition to the egg, the sandwich contains it's signature horseshoe-shaped smoked sausage on top of a bed of cabbage and lettuce, as well as a hickory barbecue sauce made from eggplant, chili peppers, and other vegetables that resembles a demiglace sauce. All of this is served on top of their homemade focaccia bread, which has a crispy but fluffy texture similar to pizza dough.

Outside of the "moon" image, the collaboration also features a commercial starring Kotono Mitsuishi, the voice actress of Usagi Tsukino in Sailor Moon. In it, Mitsuishi uses a variation of Sailor Moon's famous catchphrase, saying "in the name of the moon, this is delicious!"

The Tsukimi Focaccia Sandwich can be ordered on it's own for 520 yen, or in a Fall Discount Set that includes the sandwich, edamame corn fry (basically an edamame and corn hashbrown), and drink for 850 yen. An eggless version of the sandwich can also be ordered for 460 yen.

All menu items will be available from September 14th to November 11th.
