As the cherry blossoms slowly start to bloom across Japan, the shelves of many businesses will start to flash pink too, with innumerable sakura themed goods and snacks.
One chain getting in on the act is Mister Donut, a Japanese doughnut store. They’re responsible for the super cute Pikachu faces which were sold for a limited time last winter, and they also don’t shy away from seasonally themed treats such as their Halloween line.
They’re joining in with the cherry blossom frenzy again this year with six delicious looking cherry blossom themed doughnuts. Last year’s sakura mochi inspired doughnuts were such a hit that they’ve returned again, along with three new cherry blossom flavoured French cruller style treats.
The very seasonal looking sakura mochi doughnuts are shaped in a cute blossom shape and come in either sakura flavour, kinako (soybean flour) or red bean paste sandwich type.
The French cruller doughnuts can be bought in sakura flavour, sakura jelly and whipped cream sandwich, or red bean paste and whipped cream sandwich.
But the spring fun doesn’t end there, this year the cherry blossom line has expanded even further with bitesize sakura doughnut pops, which can be bought separately from just 37 yen, or in cups of various sizes which look perfect for a sakura picnic party.
Sakura snack lovers can look out for these special seasonal doughnuts in Mister Donut stores until early April.
