Coinciding with the end of the Heisei Era and the beginning of the Reiwa Era, this year's Tokyo Gay Pride Week from April 28th to May 5th is going to be extra special, with all kinds of events, performances and parties lined up, and of course, the Tokyo Rainbow Pride parade on April 28th with a record 52 groups taking to the streets in Shibuya and Harajuku. Over 150,000 participants celebrated the parade last year, and even more are expected to join in 2019!
And this year, for the first time, there's an official TRP theme song, "No Question 〜TOKYO RAINBOW PRIDE REMIX〜 Remixed by Mitsunori Ikeda," by none other than m-flo (who will be performing live in Yoyogi Park on April 28th).
In addition to the exciting lineup on April 28th and 29th, a special day of events and celebrations called Tokyo Rainbow Pride x Magnet by Shibuya 109 is planned on the last day of the Heisei Era, April 30th.
Rainbow Rooftop Party
Starting with the morning's Rainbow Daybreaker's yoga and dancing to happy house beats, and followed by the afternoon's Youth & Family Pride activities for LGBT youth, families and allies, the day will conclude with an amazing party with an exciting DJ lineup and performers at the iconic and recently renovated 109 building's rooftop event space, Magnet, overlooking Shibuya's famous scramble crosswalk:
As the press release explains: "Before welcoming the Reiwa Era, it's the last wild spree of the Heisei Era. A new age free of the boundaries of sex or race is just around the corner. Thinking about the richly diverse society which awaits us, we'll celebrate the new era with music and performance!"
Event organizers Twin Planet Co., Ltd. have just announced that DJ Hello Kitty will be joining the lineup!

Ever since 2010, when the official Sanrio character made her DJ debut, she's been spinning at clubs and events around the world. If you think she's only plays kids songs, think again. As we've seen before, she plays a hard and edgy EDM mix and isn't afraid to drop F*bombs when she gets the party started.

Not only has she performed on popular Japanese TV shows, and major music fests and clubs in Japan, she's also performed internationally at such venues as Club Myst in Taiwan, ULTRA KOREA After Pool Party in Seoul, Club Cubic in Macao, SMASH x I Love Anisong in Sydney and for a national Thai TV show in Bangkok.
